Into the Dead is a free to play zombie shooter game that has been out since 2012. It was also one of the very first high-quality f2p fps zombie game with a primary focus on endless running. So high quality, that it even came out as a Nintendo Switch game too. 8 years and counting, Into the Dead, remains a strong title in its category.
While it may not be hot for the newer players now, those who experienced the game back in 2012 and remain loyal to it after all these years know how rewarding and challenging the game feels.
Winning over 3 awards including Best Runner Game, Best Action Game, and Best Free FPS Game, Into The Dead, struck millions of players with its scary good time of running through the woods to get to a safe place while avoiding incoming zombies.
Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why the game still holds up to today’s standards.
Fair and Enjoyable Content for Free Players
While paying for a F2P game is optional, most of the high-profile free games tend to mask themselves as completely free but will make the game experience taxing unless you buy their quick getaway microtransactions. Such are the faults of some game publishers like EA Games and Gameloft. But, for Into the Dead, there is no such thing. You can even complete the game 100% without even paying a dime at all.
Even with such generous game experience, players have spent money on the game not because they are hard-stuck on a level or want to make progress easier but rather because they just want to support the game developers. How cool is that?
Constant Updates
You’d be surprised by how much the game has to offer now than how it was back in 2012. There are now triple more game modes and various weapons to choose from. Additionally, the game level designs are now enhanced with more environments and multiple weather changes, climates, and day/night cycles.
Graphical Overhaul
If you think the game starts to show its age, you’d be dead wrong. The developers even had the time to enhance the graphics to make Into The Dead more presentable and up to par with other modern free games right now.
Arguably Still Better Than the 2nd Game
While Into the Dead 2 may have some cool additions like a story mode, back-up allies, and futuristic weapons, a lot of people were disappointed by its lowkey pay-to-win tactic (since the publisher also changed).
But for the first game, everything is simple. You play, you progress, you get rewards. If only games were that simple rather than grindy, then the world would be a better place for gamers.
A Fresh Take on Runner Games
Usually, running games involve the character going away from something or someone. But for Into the Dead, you go INTO the dead. You charge in head first, hoping that the incoming zombies won’t grab you. It even includes some cool camera work such as shaking when you almost get bitten and some horrifying moments when you’re running into a cornfield not knowing where the zombies may lurk in.
